There are so many happy times occurring in my life lately, I thought I’d share a few with you guys!
First, my husband was promoted to Major a couple of weeks ago. I’m going to take a moment to dote on him! He is a loving father, dedicated officer and devoted husband. I was filled with pride to witness his promotion. I’m thankful for his selfless service to the country and to our family. To make the occasion even more special, his dad and stepmom and my mom were able to come into town to celebrate his achievement, which was a real treat.
I also pinned the shoulder board on correctly the first try! I was pretty proud of myself because those things are a pain in the ass.
Jack was a champ throughout the ceremony and reception. Despite being woken up from a nap, he didn’t cry or whine at all! He was taken aback by all the strangers though, and gave almost everyone a, “I don’t know you, don’t touch me” gaze. His little outfit was adorable, though we kept losing a shoe.
This is Jack’s said “I don’t know you, don’t touch me” gaze in full effect along with me holding his shoe that kept slipping off.
Promotions and change of commands normally stir up loads of anxiety for me, but this time, the plans came together without a hitch. We catered BBQ and apparently the word spread because there were quite a few more people than we anticipated. Thankfully, there was plenty of tasty food to go around.
I worked with a local lady here in town to craft a cake which was phenomenal. Not only did it look fantastic and just as I explained I wanted, it was delicious too. There’s nothing like homemade!
All in all, it was nice to meet more of Michael’s colleagues and celebrate the joyous occasion with our families.
Second milestone, Jack is now 11 months old, has sprouted 3 more teeth, and has learned to wink.
I initially mistook his teething symptoms for sickness because well, I’m a first-time mom, what do I know? Ha. It began when I went to put him down for a catnap one evening at around 4 p.m. and he slept through the night. This is highly unusual because he normally wakes 1-2 times per night to breastfeed. He did this for two nights in a row, along with spiking a fever for three days. I was checking his top gums and could see the whites, so I knew teeth were coming soon. I was so focused on the top teeth I didn’t even bother looking at the bottom and lo and behold, there popped a sneaky lateral incisor! His fever broke and he was fine after all the teeth broke through the gums, which made this momma feel much needed relief. As for the winking, you can check out my instagram to see the video of the future heartbreaker in action.
He is growing up so quickly, I love being able to capture memories of all the things he learns. I’m still in denial that I will have a toddler next month! Many more milestones continue to arise and I promise to keep you all updated with those joys as well.
