I’ve made it through 2017 without losing my mind! Go me! The year flew by in a flash. Though 2017 presented many challenges and let-downs, it also brought about many wonderful experiences I’m thankful for. Below, I’ll share some of them with you!
As always, I’m immensely thankful for my family! Michael has settled into his new job (he switched branches) and is home a lot more. He still has TDYs and more deployments are always a possibility, but we’re grateful for any additional family time. This year, we welcomed the birth of our second rainbow baby and celebrated the first birthday of our first. They are so much fun to be around and though they make me want to pull my hair out some days, they are the freaking best! I’m excited to watch them continue to grow into kind, intelligent, fun-loving little people.
Keeping with family joys, I’m thankful Jack was able to meet almost all of his grandparents and spend quality time with them! The boys are so loved and I hope they will treasure their time with their family as much as I do.
Next, I am thankful for our current duty station. Compared to our last, it’s a vast improvement! The weather is milder and we’re about 30 minutes away from a large city with lots of things to see and do. We live in a fantastic neighborhood on post that is very active and filled with supportive and kind neighbors. I couldn’t have made it through this year without them. I’m most thankful for Michael’s new job at this duty station because his morale is a million times improved which makes for a happier and more peaceful household.
One of the other things I’ve been extremely thankful for this past year is the Parents as Teachers organization. I heard about it by word-of-mouth from friends and have been involved for about three months. We love it so much and intend to remain active in the program as long as we are stationed here. Though we haven’t been involved very long, I’ve already witnessed immense maturation and growth in Jack. He’s much more outgoing and has a blast socializing and learning with his peers in playgroup. Michael and I are also growing to be better parents and learning how to teach, play and interact with the boys in new nurturing and creative ways. I’m looking forward to watching both boys blossom as we continue! If you’re not familiar with this fantastic program, you can learn more about it here.
As the year closes, I’m hopeful for the future and eager to begin a new chapter with family and friends in 2018.
Wishing you and yours a joyful and happy new year! 🎊
